Collaborative educational setting showcasing relational warmth and community connection

A Full day on the foundations

Introduction to Restorative Practice is the foundation course. No prior training is assumed and nothing is taken as given. We cover why restorative work does what it does, the specific language it relies on to address unexpected behaviour and harm.

There is practice time throughout the day. You will not spend six hours listening.

CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK

What You Will Explore

A structured journey bridging evidence-based relational neurobiology with practical communication tools designed for immediate professional application.

Neuroscience of Connection

Understand how our human brain processes information and the vital role of relational trust and safety.

Restorative Language

Master affective phrasing, compassionate inquiry, and calibrated questioning that invites honesty and accountability.

Navigating Conflict

Navigate relational friction with composure. Acquire clear protocols to address harm, repair fractured trust, and reset relationships constructively.

It usually happens in the thirty seconds

after something goes wrong

A student says something you cannot let go. The room is watching. You have a traditional response ready, and even as it leaves your mouth you know it will not change anything.

Most of us were never taught another option. We were taught to control behaviour, hold the line, follow the flow chart. What we were not taught is how to stay in relationship with a young person while still holding them accountable.

Both of those things can be true at once. That is the whole of this work, and it is learnable.

What if something comes up and I cannot attend?

Does this count towards the Advanced course

Yes. It is the pre-requisite to our Advanced Restorative Practices training.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land where we work and live, in particular the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and future. We acknowledge all First Nation peoples as the traditional custodians of the continent, whose cultures are among the oldest living cultures in human history. We recognise and celebrate their continued connection to the land and waters of this place, and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
